Black Panther (SPOILER FREE REVIEW)
Black is the New Gold!
Gold is a color typically associated with extravagance and grandeur stature. That is the only way that I can describe Marvel Studio's new blockbuster film Black Panther. Marvel never ceases to amaze its fan base with setting the bar high. I don't know how they have been able to continually top every movie that they release throughout the years, but they have the ideal formula of making hit after hit. It is safe to say that you can add Black Panther to that list!
Black Panther is the newest addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe written and directed by rising director Ryan Coogler. Coogler shows the entire world with this film that he is a force to be reckoned with in Hollywood. For someone with such a small resume, he has created some amazing films that have such depth. He is a great storyteller and he is only 31! I personally believe Black Panther might be his best story yet. He truly captivated the essence of a superhero film while also telling a story that has an eye-opening emphasis on culture and social injustice. The genius behind the film making is how the deeper message was portrayed so subtly and poetically.
What makes this film so unique in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is that it is so different than the rest. The film's success has a large part to do with its all star cast. This movie has some high quality actors and actresses like Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong'o, Daniel Kaluuya, Forest Whitaker, etc. The stellar acting along with its astonishing visual effects and cinematography make Black Panther one of the best superhero movies ever made.
The setting of the movie Wakanda is of a fictional nation in Africa which is a marvel within itself. Coogler really attracts the audience with a futuristic city within the beautiful landscapes of present day Africa. What really caught my eye and interest as a Marvel fan was not the protagonist which is as per usual in most superhero movies, but more so of the antagonist. The antagonist (Erik Killmonger) played by Michael B. Jordan was nothing short of phenomenal in this movie. He portrayed an excellent villain that is filled with rage set out on a lifelong quest for revenge. If I can complain about one thing about Black Panther, it is that he was not in this movie as much as I would have wanted.
I truly mean it when I say that Black Panther is pure gold! It is more than just an action packed superhero film. It is a story that has a deeper meaning and really has you engaged from start to finish. Even if you are not a superhero fan, you will fall in love with what this movie has to offer!
